Bradford J. Snow - bradford wpi edu

Summary

Brad discusses his Wearbook project, StrongARM Linux, and design strategies for wearable computing applications.

Abstract

This presentation will include discussion on various issues related to wearable computing, Linux, and specifics on Brad's projects. Topics are:

Human Computer Interface (HCI) design for wearable software

  • General challenges and goals
  • How Wearbook addressed these challenges
  • Reasoning behind Wearbook design

StrongARM Based Wearable Computing

  • Linux on StrongARM
  • Developing wearable computing applications for StrongARM Linux
  • Cross-compilers, X Windows, Microwindows, and FLTK

Bio

Brad is a senior at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, completing his Bachelors degrees in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering; he's also a former President of WPI's ACM Student Chapter. Brad has been designing a Wearable Virtual Course Notebook (Wearbook) application to be used by the student in the classroom. Key features are ability to capture low frame rate video and audio streams, snapshot pictures, search capabilities, context awareness, and indexing of media streams against textual notes. In addition Brad has been designing a StrongARM SA-1110 board for wearable computing use.
